Jeremiah 29:11 is on half the graduation cards in America. Almost nobody reads the verse right before it.

Here's the famous one:

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." (Jeremiah 29:11)

Beautiful. Now here's the part that doesn't make the card.

Jeremiah wrote those words in a letter to people who had just been hauled off to Babylon as captives. And one verse earlier, God tells them exactly how long they'll be there.

Seventy years. (Jeremiah 29:10)

Most of the people reading that letter would never see home again. So God told them to build houses, plant gardens, get married, and pray for the very city they were stuck in. (Jeremiah 29:5 to 7)

So this isn't a promise that your plans will work out by next Friday. It's a promise that His plans are good, even when the wait is longer than you are.
